"Because of Pratham,
the learning level in my village
has improved"

Impact in India

Nearly every child in India is in school, but India’s students are underachieving in the classroom. Pratham is focused on improving the education spectrum - early childhood education, reading and math programs, vocational training, back-to-school programs for girls, and more.

We're seeing results, and we want you to hear it straight from the students, teachers, and volunteers who make it all happen.

This is Pratham, through their eyes.

Nobel Laureates, Esther Duflo & Abhijit Banerjee, discuss the Pratham & Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) partnership

Pratham programs are so effective because we always assess, research, and adapt our methods and programs. Pratham has also partnered with Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, winners of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, from the early years of J-PAL for over two decades, to rigorously evaluate our solutions for solving the challenge of low learning outcomes.

Watch our interview with Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, where they discuss their work, and why they work so closely with Pratham.

#ThroughMyEyes - Pratham Vocational Programs

Just 2% of India’s current working-age population has received any formal skills training. The results are poor working conditions, low wages and worker exploitation.

Pratham runs vocational programs that train young people for work in the automotive, healthcare, hospitality, and electrical industries. Ritu and Suman are two young women enrolled in Pratham vocational courses, both with aspirations of entering the workforce and being able to provide for their families. Give today to support more young people in India just like them!

"One thing that is great about Pratham is that anyone regardless of gender or religion has an opportunity to move ahead together."

Suman Sharma is in Pratham's vocational training program (in hospitality), and talks about what she enjoys about the program.

#ThroughMyEyes - Pratham's Second Chance Program

1 out of every 100 girls enrolled in primary school in rural India reaches the 12th grade. Pratham's Second Chance program gets young women back in the classroom so they can earn their secondary school certificate and explore the world of opportunity an education can give them.

Videsiya and Barsha are two young women currently enrolled in Pratham's Second Chance program, and it's not hard to see the impact it's already having. The program reached nearly 4,000 girls in India in 2018-19 - watch their stories and help us reach even more next year.

"My parents had a dream of opening a school in their name. That is why I want to study further"

Barsha Samala from Pratham's Second Chance program talks about what she aspires to do with the opportunity she's gotten through Pratham.

Impact - Pratham Vocational Programs

#ThroughMyEyes - Pratham in the field

As of 2018-2019, Pratham has programs operating in 24 cities, across 21 states and 1 union territory, in India - and our 6,000 field staff and 25,000 volunteers are at the heart of it all.

Pratham staff work hand-in-hand with local volunteers to organize early childhood activities, collaborative learning groups, and other programs to not only improve education outcomes, but to foster a stronger sense of community around education. Your gift to Pratham allows us to hire more staff, expand programs, and train more volunteers - like Subrata, from Kulori.

Watch his story, and know that your gift supports Subrata and tens of thousands more volunteers just like him - passionate, giving, and invested in the education of the young people in his community.

Create a brighter future for India

When you give to Pratham, you are creating the possibility for a brighter future for India. Pratham educational and vocational programs reached more than 16 million children and youth people in India in 2018-19 - that means 16 million stories of hope. These are the faces of India’s future, supported by you.

2018-19 was a particularly eventful year for Pratham, and that's down to the generous support of people just like you. We cooperate with dozens of corporate partners, but it's the individual donors that really make Pratham go. Pratham launched the Hamara Gaon initiative, which means a more extensive and sustained presence in 3,500 villages across India

  • Teaching at the Right Level has been integrated into 130,000 government primary schools in Uttar Pradesh
  • Pratham digital initiatives brought content, connectivity, and infrastructure to 1,000 communities across India

As 2019 comes to an end, we want to thank everyone who has supported our mission over the past 25 years. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
